Kay wasn’t really the “sit at home and watch a movie” type of person.

Instead of paying attention to the documentary her girlfriend had enthusiastically picked out, Kay was currently drowning in the pile of blankets she and Ema had nested themselves in and under. Her focus was mainly on Ema, who, unlike Kay, was completely invested in the movie.

It was a bit strange, Kay thought, as Ema also wasn’t the movie type. But she knew that Ema was fascinated by the world of science, a criminology documentary was just the right thing to peak someone like Ema‘s interest. Maybe next movie night they should watch something about birds. Oh, how Kay loved birds.

“You’re shaking the whole couch, babe,” Kay chuckled.

Ema awkwardly rested her hands at her sides, looking down at her bouncing legs. Embarrassed, she quickly paused the movie.

“Can’t I be excited about stuff?” She looked up to face her girlfriend, but ended up staring at the wall adjacent to her. Eye contact really wasn’t her favorite thing.

“No! It’s fine, just a dumb joke, that’s all.” Kay forced a laugh. “You look really cute when you stim, Ems.” Ema was cute in general, but seeing her get so excited over something, in a time where she spent most of her time feeling miserable about her job as a detective, warmed Kay’s heart.

Ema beamed. “Thanks.” She moved closer to her girlfriend, resting her head on Kay’s shoulder.

“No problem,” Kay gave Ema a quick kiss on the cheek. The movie had been long forgotten at this point.

“Can we cuddle?” Ema asked, “I’m in a cuddly mood.”

“Sure.” Kay wrapped her arms around the detective.

Ema happily hummed, pressing her face into Kay’s chest. “‘Love you,” she mumbled.

“Love you too, baby.” Kay smoothed Ema’s hair behind her ear, quickly giving her a kiss. “God, I love you so much.”
